Delaware Volunteer Credit

Am I eligible for the Delaware Volunteer Credit? If you are a high school student volunteering or working on a service project and your district or charter school board has adopted a policy for approving such credit, you are eligible to participate in the Delaware Volunteer Credit program. Check with your school counselor for approval. Students in 8th grade who volunteer the summer prior to entering 9th grade can use those hours towards the Delaware Volunteer Credit.

How do I register for the Delaware Volunteer Credit? To register for the volunteer credit, go to https://volunteer.delaware.gov/ Click on Volunteers, Volunteers located in the yellow bar, Register. Complete all the information. Click submit. You will receive an email with a code (you must have a valid email). Once you receive the code, enter it into the field. You will then complete the registration. Be sure to check the Delaware Volunteer Credit box and fill in ALL the required information.

Where can I volunteer? There are many searchable opportunities available on the site https://volunteer.delaware.gov/volunteers. Volunteer Delaware will email new opportunities to registered individuals as they become available.

How do I keep track of my hours? Go to https://volunteer.delaware.gov/ and select the "Volunteers" tab. Then, click on the option to Self-Report Hours. Here you will enter the following information:

Opportunity Name

Organization Served

Date of Service

Start Time and End Time (You must report at the end of each shift.)

How long do I have to complete the 90-hour requirement? The 90 hours of service must be completed over two semesters. The semesters do not have to be consecutive and can be done anytime during your high school years.

Can I volunteer during school hours? Volunteer service cannot be done during normal school hours and cannot be required to complete a course.

What is the deadline for completion of hours? Hours must be self-reported and verified by April 15th if you are a senior and using the credit towards graduation.

When will I receive the Credit? Volunteer Delaware will notify your school counselor to place one elective credit on your high school transcript by April 22, 2022. Placement of the credit is done by your school counselor. For any questions, please follow up with your school counselor.

When do I receive my Certificate?  Volunteer Delaware will mail awards packets to the school no later than the second week in May. High School Seniors will receive a graduation cord and certificate for completing the Delaware Volunteer Credit. All students who are eligible will also have their information submitted for the President's Volunteer Service Awards. 

What if I forget to self-report hours? Hours must be submitted on the Volunteer Delaware website by April 1st to receive the credit for the current year. Completed hours submitted after this date will be considered for the following school year.
