Delaware Hospice Volunteers

Patient Care Volunteers

  • Patient check-in calls

  • Care calls – provide a listening ear for patients

  • Visit with patient (read to patient, share stories, play cards or board games)

  • Provide transportation to doctor’s appointments, store, or pharmacy.

  • Walk with patient

  • Run an errand

  • Pray with patient or read Bible or sacred text

  • Provide vigil support as patient nears death

  • Give haircuts for patients

  • Assemble and deliver care gifts to patients

     

Vet-to-Vet

  • Volunteers who are military veterans visiting patients who are veterans to talk about patient’s military experiences

     

Office Volunteers

  • Clerical support

  • General office duties

  • Run errands

 

Community Ed Volunteers

  • Help at health fairs

  • Help with presentations in community

 

Development Volunteers

  • Help prepare for fundraising events

  • Help during fundraising events

  • Be a part of a variety of event committees

 

Bereavement Volunteers

  • Help with mailings to bereaved clients

  • Assist with Fall & Spring Memorial Services

  • Check-in calls to bereaved clients

  • General office duties

 

 

Medical Records Volunteers

  • Filling

  • Assemble packets

  • Mailings

 

New Hope Volunteers

  • Camp New Hope

  • Clerical support and mailings

     

Transitions Volunteers

  • Run errands for clients

  • Provide transportation

  • Visit clients

 

Volunteer Chaplains at DH Inpatient Unit

  • Provide spiritual support for patients and families

  • Pray and read with patients

 

RN Volunteers

  • Weekly Check-in calls to all patients

  • Delaware Hospice Center

  • Medication disposal visits

 

Delaware Hospice Center Volunteers

  • Reception desk volunteer

  • Bake cookies

  • Sew, crochet or knit lap quilts

  • Clerical support

  • Patient and family support

  • Vigil support

  • Medication pick-up & delivery to patient’s home

 

Staff Education Volunteer

  • General office support

 

Memory Bear Volunteers

  • Seamstress to create Memory Bears

  • Organize and tracking Memory Bear orders

  • Creates “Bear Kits” for seamstresses
