Literacy Delaware

Small Group Tutor

  • Literacy Delaware provides tutor training and tutor mentorship/observation opportunities
  • Volunteers work with a small group (1-6) of either English Language Learners or Adult Readers
  • Classes are held for two hours, twice a week, for a total of 4 hours/week
  • Minimum commitment of one instructional block (avg. 8 weeks)

Workshop Tutor

  • Literacy Delaware provides tutor training and tutor mentorship/observation opportunities
  • 3-5 volunteers work together to facilitate weekly group literacy workshops
  • Minimum commitment of 2 evenings/month; weekly commitment preferred

 

Community Engagement Volunteer

  • Literacy Delaware provides background instruction in community outreach
  • Volunteers attend events and speak with community members regarding our services and help prospective students begin the registration process

Monthly Conversation Meet-up Volunteer

  • Volunteers meet monthly at local coffee shops and facilitate discussion between English Language Learner participants

Testing Team Member

  • Literacy Delaware provides test administration training for both ESL and reading assessments
  • Volunteers help to register and test new learners for placement and conduct post-tests at the end of term
  • Average commitment of one 2-hour block per month
