Literacy Delaware
Small Group Tutor
- Literacy Delaware provides tutor training and tutor mentorship/observation opportunities
- Volunteers work with a small group (1-6) of either English Language Learners or Adult Readers
- Classes are held for two hours, twice a week, for a total of 4 hours/week
- Minimum commitment of one instructional block (avg. 8 weeks)
Workshop Tutor
- Literacy Delaware provides tutor training and tutor mentorship/observation opportunities
- 3-5 volunteers work together to facilitate weekly group literacy workshops
- Minimum commitment of 2 evenings/month; weekly commitment preferred
Community Engagement Volunteer
- Literacy Delaware provides background instruction in community outreach
- Volunteers attend events and speak with community members regarding our services and help prospective students begin the registration process
Monthly Conversation Meet-up Volunteer
- Volunteers meet monthly at local coffee shops and facilitate discussion between English Language Learner participants
Testing Team Member
- Literacy Delaware provides test administration training for both ESL and reading assessments
- Volunteers help to register and test new learners for placement and conduct post-tests at the end of term
- Average commitment of one 2-hour block per month
