New Castle County's Youth Planning Board
https://nccde.org/2045/Youth-Planning-BoardToday’s youth will inherit the New Castle County of the future. There is a significant need to involve young people in governance generally—and planning specifically—in order to empower them to advocate for the changes they want to see in their communities. The first year of the New Castle County Youth Planning Board (YPB) will consist of a 10-month program to help develop the next New Castle County Comprehensive Development Plan, which provides guidance for our government’s decisions regarding the natural and built environment and shapes where we live, work, learn and recreate. The Board will lend perspective, develop plan recommendations, and champion issues and engagement particularly as relates to other young people. Over the program year, members will participate in 10 activities that build their knowledge of community planning, empower them with skills to help improve their communities, and engage them in applying those skills in the comprehensive planning process. Training will take place during monthly group meetings, individual practice/coaching sessions, and hands-on applications in professional planning activities. Virtual board meetings will be held as online video conferences subject to new public health advisories for gatherings. The Board’s recommendations will be incorporated into the final draft of the Comprehensive Plan Update due to the State of Delaware in June 2022. While serving on the board you will work with the Department of Land Use to help create the blueprint for NCC2050: The Comprehensive Development Plan. The program will take place from September 2021 to May 2022. Open to individuals ages 14-22.
