Habitat for Humanity International is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian organization dedicated to eliminating substandard housing and homelessness worldwide and making adequate, affordable shelter a matter of conscience and action. Habitat for Humanity has always had a policy of building with people in need regardless of race or religion, and we welcome volunteers and supporters from all backgrounds. Today, Habitat International has built more than 200,000 houses, sheltering more than 1,000,000 people in more than 3,000 communities worldwide. In 1992, Central Delaware Habitat for Humanity (CDHFH) was formed as an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International and has since carried out its parent mission of building homes with no profit added and no interest charged through our Partner-family Housing program. Funding for this program comes from the new homeowners house payments, donations and no-interest loans provided by supporters and money earned through fundraising activities. In 2007, CDHFH opened the Habitat ReStore (a recycling program designed to resell donated items and increase revenue for building homes). And, in 2008, CDHFH will begin construction on its 17th house in Smyrna, Delaware.
