Debbie Smith
Debbie Smith is an Accountant by profession with 20+ years of financial and accounting experience that spans from government to banking, hospital and utility industries. She is a multi-talented, Community Engagement/DEI practitioner, who embraces a challenge to achieve organizational goals with cultivated experience contributing to civil rights and social action initiatives across communities and organizations. She is a member of the Dover Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., where she serves as the Chair of the Social Action Committee.
Debbie is a Delaware transplant by way of the military. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the University of Southern Mississippi and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Delaware State University. She also received a certificate in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion from Cornell University. One of Debbie’s favorite quotes is penned by Muhammad Ali that reads, “The service you do for others is the rent you pay for your room here on earth.”
With that quote in mind, Debbie is very active in the community and has served on several nonprofit national boards and committees, such as but not limited to American Heart Association (AHA), Delaware Chapter, Dover YMCA and Meals on Wheels Delaware (MOWD), where she currently serves as the chair of the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) committee. She also serves as the chair of the leadership team of the Physical Activity, Nutrition, and Obesity Prevention (PANO) Advancing Health Lifestyles Coalition. She is currently serving as the chair of the Governor’s Commission on Community & Volunteer Service (GCCVS).
In her spare time, Debbie loves volunteering and assisting people with financial planning and budgeting. She is a voracious reader who enjoys spending time with family and traveling when time permits. She is very creative and loves working with different forms of arts and crafts but gravitates to cross-stitching.
